Background and Personal InfoBronte Campbell, age 22 was born in Blantyre, Malawi on the 14th May 1994 to Jenny and Eric Campbell. She moved to Australia at the age of 6 with her family from South Africa. At the time, the Campbell family was 'thoroughly middle-class' but were surrounded by poverty in the home in South Africa. Bronte and sister Cate were always competitive as kids in every aspect as well as in the pool. And joined their first swimming club when Bronte was about 9, winning 4 gold medals in their first carnival. Now 22, she will be competing in her second Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this year, 2016. Bronte will be swimming in the 100m Freestyle Women, 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay Women and the 50m Freestyle Women Races. In the London Olympic Games, 2012, Bronte and Cate were the first Australian siblings to compete in the same Olympic event where she came 4th in semi-final, missing the final by 0.23 seconds. Bronte and Cate are trained by Simon Cusack and became the first family members to place as individuals and stand on the same podium in swimming history. This occurred when Bronte came 1st and Cate came 3rd at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Russia, in the 100m freestyle. At this same World Championship she also received gold in the 50m freestyle event, being the third swimmer to ever take the 50 and 100m double at a World Championship.
